
Sianok canyon is a steep valley in the middle of Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra Province. This long and winding valley lies south of the Koto Gadang Gorge to the Sianok Six Tribe Gorge, and stops at Palupuh.
This steep valley of the canyon has a depth of 100 m and has a length of approximately 15 km with a width of 200 m. Sianok canyon is a separator of the island of Sumatra into 2 parts that extends or is called Semahan Fault. Along the fracture, the walls are very steep and perpendicular to form a green valley which is the result of synclinal (downward movement of the earth's crust).
In 2007 due to the Sumatra earthquake part of the wall collapsed, but the Sianok canyon still fascinates the tourists who come. Nevertheless Ngarai Sianok won The Best Tourism Object at the 2007 Padang Tourism Award which took place in Padang, West Sumatra.

The water is quite clear empties into the Indian Ocean. Sometimes the flow of the Sianok River is often used for water sports activities such as rafting, kayaking and canoeing.
